From the Washington Post: "Inflation spiked in 2007, driven by escalating food and energy costs that more than cancelled the wage gains earned by workers over the year."
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) tracks the Consumer Price Index (the primary inflation indicator). The BLS collects data on other important economic indicators, such as the Producer Price Index, import and export price indexes, consumer expenditures, and compensation data.
The Washington Post article also references new data released by the Census Bureau on retail sales in late 2007. The Census Bureau site includes other economic indicators related to sales, inventory, and trade.
