Beef Recall

From the Washington Post: "The Agriculture Department has ordered the largest meat recall in its history -- 143 million pounds of beef, a California meatpacker's entire production for the past two years -- because the company did not prevent ailing animals from entering the U.S. food supply, officials said yesterday."

The USDA has issued a statement and additional information on the recall of ground beef products produced by Hallmark/Westland Meat Packing Company. This information includes a recall notice, a technical briefing, and a Q & A fact sheet.

The USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) has additional information on the recall, including a lengthier fact sheet. FoodSafety.gov is an additional gateway to government information on food safety.
