From Yahoo! News: "President Bush named top White House economic adviser Ben Bernanke as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board on Monday in place of near-legendary Alan Greenspan as the official in closest control of interest rates. Bernanke instantly announced his first priority would be 'to maintain continuity with the policies and policy strategies under the Greenspan era'."
The transcript of the announcement at the White House is available online. The White House site also includes a biography of Ben Bernanke.
Bernanke is currently chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. He has also served on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. A search for "Bernanke" on the Fed website retrieves numerous speeches by Bernanke.
