Medicare Improvements Bill

From the Missoulian: "A major Medicare bill overcame Republican opposition in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday, as supporters mustered 69 votes to pass the bill that stops a scheduled 10.6 percent cut in Medicare payments to physicians.

"The measure, co-authored and championed by U.S. Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., also includes other provisions he said will strengthen health care and Medicare, the government health insurance program for the elderly and disabled."

The Senate ended the filibuster on H.R. 6331, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008, with roll call vote 169. After the cloture motion passed, the bill was passed by unanimous consent. The text of H.R. 6331 is available through THOMAS.
