Unemployment Rate

From the New York Times: "The American economy lost another 240,000 jobs in October, the government reported Friday, as cash-strapped consumers pulled back sharply and businesses hunkered down, intensifying the distress gripping much of the country."

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) collects data on employment rates, and the agency released information today on the October 2008 employment situation (PDF).

In related news, the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve have made announcements recently about their next steps to boost the economy.
