From the Missoulian: "Even as Paws Up owner and Las Vegas businessman David E. Lipson insisted to Gov. Brian Schweitzer Tuesday that his trademark applications for the phrase "The Last Best Place" were innocuous, a pair of those applications moved closer to fruition.
"On Tuesday, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office mailed two notices of allowance to Lipson's trademark lawyer, Luke DeMarte, in Chicago. DeMarte, reached by telephone Wednesday, declined to comment on the applications."
Patent applications 76299660 and 76299659 received letters of allowance this week.
Application 76299660 covers meat/beef products. To see the letter of allowance, do a search for serial number "76299660" on the Trademark Document Retrieval page.
Application 76299659 covers "Clothing and accessories, namely, hats, shirts, jackets, uniforms, caps, underwear, sweatshirts, t-shirts, lingerie, sweaters, swim wear and golf wear." Application numbers 76355243, 76355577, and 76299658 have already received notices of allowance as well. Notices of allowance specify the trademark recipient "must use the mark in commerce and file a Statement of Use (a.k.a. Allegation of Use) before the USPTO will register the mark." Recipients have six months from the issue date to either file a Statement of Use or request an Extension of Time to File a Statement of use ("Extension Request"). Up to five extensions may be granted. These three applications have had at least one extension of time granted for each.
