Increased Public Debt Resolution

From the Washington Post: "Congress raised the limit on the federal government's borrowing by $781 billion yesterday, and then lawmakers voted to spend well over $100 billion on the war in Iraq, hurricane relief, education, health care, transportation and heating assistance for the poor without making offsetting budget cuts."

The Senate voted 52-48 to pass H.J.Res. 47, the Increased Public Debt resolution, raising the debt limit to $8.965 trillion. Other actions of Congress are summarized in the Congressional Record Daily Digest.
