From the Missoulian: "The Bush administration asked Congress on Thursday to pass legislation giving the U.S. Forest Service authority to sell enough federal land to raise $800 million to help offset costs for payments to counties for rural schools and maintaining roads."
The text of the proposed legislation, the "National Forest Land Conveyance for Rural Communities Act," has been posted on the Forest Service website.
The Forest Service is taking comments on the proposed land sale. More information on the proposal is also available on the Forest Service site.
