From the Washington Post: "Efforts to extend the USA Patriot Act cleared a major hurdle yesterday when the White House and key senators agreed to revisions that are virtually certain to secure Senate passage and likely to win House approval, congressional leaders said."
Details of the compromise are available on Senator Sununu's website. The compromise details affect the conference report for H.R. 3199 , the USA PATRIOT and Terrorism Prevention Reauthorization Act of 2005.
The PATRIOT Act has been extended twice already, through H.R. 4647 and H.R. 4659.
